AS PART of a new scheme championing Northumbrian food and drink producers, creators have made a short film, highlighting some of the best the county has to offer.
Created in partnership between Northumberland County Council (NCC) and Food and Drink North East (FADNE), Taste of Northumberland is an initiative which celebrates the people and businesses that grow, make, or serve products within the region.
Launched over the autumn, the scheme, say NCC, "brings together producers, retailers, hospitality venues, and food lovers under one recognisable brand that champions the quality, provenance, and diversity of Northumberland’s local produce."
"Taste of Northumberland will give producers the opportunity to showcase their products, access new markets, and benefit from a range of business support, marketing initiatives, and collaboration opportunities across the county’s food and drink network."

As part of the launch, Local Heroes, who describe themselves as 'regional storytellers', were commissioned to create a short film, showcasing Northumberland food and drink tourism, by, they say, "capturing the people who bring local produce to life in Northumberland."
Beginning with an original poem, the 11 and a half minute film, described as "a cinematic love letter to Northumberland’s provenance, people, and plate," features five regional producers: Bays Leap Dairy Farm, The Bakery Barn, Heatherslaw Corn Mill, Creel & Reel Seafood Trailer and Buston Farms, as well as two local businesses: First & Last Brewery, based in Bellingham, and The Feathers Inn, at Hedley-on-the Hill.
Dan Prince of Local Heroes, who was commissioned to make the film, said: "We are proud of what we do, and we should be proud to show people the real stories.
"This is what we wanted to capture in the series of films: a true connection with the people who are proud to put their local produce on the map in Northumberland. Creating not only a campaign film to promote the beauty of the place, but also the heart and soul of the people who are proud to show who they are, and what they have to offer.
"The Taste of Northumberland campaign is certainly a celebration, and a passion which many will share from the wider reaches of the region."

Richard Wearmouth, Deputy Leader of Northumberland County Council, said: "Taste of Northumberland stands for quality, authenticity, and local pride.
"By working with Food and Drink North East, we’re ensuring the scheme evolves with the industry, offering producers and hospitality businesses the recognition, support, and visibility they deserve.
"This marks an exciting new chapter for local food and drink in our county."
To qualify for the initiative, businesses "must demonstrate authentic local sourcing and production, as well as meet recognised food quality standards," said NCC.
Members are encouraged to display the official Taste of Northumberland logo on product labels, menus and marketing materials, and which, NCC say, "is a recognised mark of provenance that assures consumers of genuine Northumberland ingredients, artisan skill and trusted supply chains."
Local producers are being encouraged to sign up to the initiative. Learn more and register your interest via this link: https://www.visitnorthumberland.org.uk/what-we-do/product-development/taste-of-northumberland
