A new outdoor learning space has been unveiled at a school in Northumberland.

Ovingham Church of England First School has completed the project to "inspire creativity and adventure" for its students.

The project was a collaboration with Newcastle Bridges School, with staff and pupils working to construct a mud kitchen using recycled pallets and scaffolding boards.

The mud kitchen will offer children a unique outdoor play experience that encourages imaginative play, exploration, and connection with nature.

The school said it will be fully equipped to support children’s creative activities, allowing them to dig, mix, and create in a safe and welcoming environment.

Get Set Go building blocks, Play Builder equipment, and additional adventurous climbing gear were also purchased by the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA), for Key Stage 2 students.

The new resources aim to provide more opportunities for outdoor learning, physical development, and imaginative play.

Ovingham C of E First School offered a special thanks to Councillor Holly Waddell, whose support made the project possible.

According to the school, Cllr Waddell’s commitment to education and outdoor play areas played a "key role" in the development of the new facilities.

Andy Hudson, headteacher, said: "This project has been a wonderful example of how collaboration can transform outdoor spaces for the benefit of our students.

"The mud kitchen will be a wonderful addition to our school’s learning environment, and the new climbing equipment will offer KS2 children even more ways to challenge themselves.

"We are incredibly grateful to the staff, students, PTA, Coun Waddell, and all those who have supported us in bringing these new spaces to life."

The school is proud of the positive impact these new resources will have on its pupils’ development and well-being, and looks forward to seeing the children enjoy the new spaces over the coming months.
