Investment in Prudhoe set to hit £4.6 million as new town centre funding is announced.
The county council has announced several town centre projects set to begin as early as this summer.
This comes as part of the Northumberland Borderlands Place Programme, a ten-year, £21 million scheme aimed at regenerating towns and boosting economic growth across the county.
The council has already committed to the £1.6 million Prudhoe Waterworld improvements, which are expected to be completed this Spring.
The new West Wylam Playzone, one of the first of 16 new playzones across Northumberland, is also progressing.
On top of this, a further £3 million is being made available as part of the Borderlands Place Programme, which aims to improve seven towns across Northumberland.
The county council's cabinet agreed earlier this month to establish a £9 million Town Centre Transformation Package, as part of the county's £21 million Borderlands Place Programme.
According to the council, each town is set to secure up to £3 million from the programme.
The projects are part of the Northumberland Borderlands Place Programme, a ten-year, £21 million programme that aims to regenerate towns and grow the economies of Alnwick, Prudhoe, Bedlington, Newbiggin, Bellingham, Haltwhistle, and Rothbury.
The funding means that up to £500,000 is now available for new projects in Prudhoe, such as the Glade town square project to create an updated event space on the High Street.
Northumberland County Councils says this could get underway later this year, alongside the proposed investment in the new East Centre, which is currently in development and set to seek funding approval later this year.
Glen Sanderson, leader of Northumberland County Council, said: "Now we’ve agreed £9 million of council funding for towns across the county, we’re keen to get going on improvements and I’m pleased we have been able to meet with a range of local partners with a view to bringing some schemes forward.
"There’s a raft of improvements in the town at present, pushing close to £5 million of investment, the majority of which is funded by the council alongside our partners."
