Hexham is getting ready to celebrate Pride Month this June, with a march and LGBTQIA+ pride film festival among the events.

The town’s Forum Cinema will host the Pride film festival showing multiple films throughout the month.

SLOW will screen on June 12, The Matrix on June 15, Pride on June 20, and The Imitation Game on June 23.

On June 13, Hexham’s Queens Hall will host The Monocle dance show, and June 15 will see a free park run event.

Hexham Pride Steering Group has organised a march on Sunday, June 16, which meets at 11am at the Market Place, ready for an 11.20am start.

It will conclude with a takeover of the Bandstand Sessions with free live music from 12 noon to 2.15pm.

The acts performing include A Batida da Rua, Jade Mia Broadhead, Charley Bena and Hadrian's Union.

June 16's event will also have a blues dance group performing and the drag king, Stan Doubt, making an appearance.

LGBT+ Northern Social Group will be set up nearby for people to chat and find out what they have to offer.

The month will conclude with poet John Clifford at the Forum Cinema on June 28, the 55th anniversary of Stonewall.

Hexham Library will host discussions on June 18 and June 20, with figures like Ethel Williams and Francis Hardcastle.

Hexham Pride is a community-led event comprising volunteers who have come together to celebrate and promote LGBTQIA+ acceptance in Tynedale.
