A POPULAR summer event will return to a Tynedale village in June.

A Midsummer's Evening will return to Corbridge on Thursday, June 20 from 4pm until around 8.30pm.

Gayle Foster, chair of Visit Corbridge which organises the event, said along with street food vendors including Street Diner from Hexham and mobile pizza van Fire and Dough, market stalls and entertainment, there will be a pop-up gin bar and shops will stay open until late.

Some shops will have special offers.

Gayle, who also owns Vintage at the Tower, will welcome guests to enjoy drinks outside the shop as the event coincides with the business's 11th anniversary.

"We've got jewellers, crafters and upcyclers - just a wide range of artists and artisans. We've got stalls with local charities too. Tynedale Hospice at Home has a stand and our local Corbridge charities, Corbridge Youth Initiative and Charlotte Straker Project, have got stalls as well," she said.

The Rock Choir and Hexham Morrismen and Hexhamshire Lasses will provide entertainment.

Face painting will be available for children.

"We've got a full line-up of music which is yet to be confirmed, they will be local singer-songwriters."

Middle Street will close for the event and a free park-and-ride service will run from and to free parking at Tynedale Rugby Club throughout the event.

A detour for traffic will go through Front Street while the marketplace is occupied.

St Andrew's Church will host a textile and art exhibition titled Craft Fest 2024 which will stay open until 9pm.

This will celebrate crafting in the community and feature knitting, weaving, quilting, crocheting and more.

"We've still got spaces for a couple of stalls," Gayle added. "Last year's event was massive, it was so successful. It was the first time we had done it since lockdown - we had nearly 5,000 visitors during the evening.

"It was a lovely night, everyone was in such a good mood. For the village, it's a really important showcase so people coming from outside can see what it's all about and then hopefully come back later in the year."
