HERE ARE some of the Tripadvisor reviews by tourists who visited Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland over the past several years.

For some, it is a piece of history and makes Northumberland unique, however, we found some people were not impressed about the site or the cost of the car parks.

kiloalphatango85 in August 2023 said: "Very underwhelming pile of rocks, with various sections missing… Not very high… Theres really not much else to say……."

This seemed to be a common thought and more reviewers dvise others on when to go during the year.

hharahap in 2019 also said: "I think you should only visit this place during summer time. Because on winter you can’t just walk for miles to see a wall.

"I joined one day tour from Hearts of Scotland, and honestly... they oversell it. It is not worth it even all paired up with a “davinci code” church. What a ripped off."

Tripadvisor reviewer mag8pies in 2020 adds: "The wall itself is quite interesting but the real attractions are the various forts, museums, etc. situated at various points along its length. Unfortunately the cost of parking and entry to these attractions is far too high in my opinion.

"A family will spend at least a three figure sum if visiting more than two or three of them, and I think they will feel short changed by the content of some."

A final review from David M said: "As much as I admire and am awestruck by what the Romans did and as much as I realise the historic importance of Housesteads, do not go here if you have even the slightest chance of going to Vindalanda or Carlisle museum. There is nothing here. foundations and that's it. loads of imagination needed.Ive got plenty and obviously I am grateful for all the excavation but theres nothing here. Its no one fault.it was torn to pieces. Mighty impressive in its day I will admit but even a hard core archaeologist would prefer Vindalanda."
