Northumbrian Water has garnered recognition at the 2024 Northern Power Women Awards for making strides in gender representation and career opportunities for women.

Organised by We Are Power, the awards celebrate gender equality.

Northumbrian Water claimed the top spot in the large organisation category on Monday, March 18, at Manchester’s Convention Centre.

The recognition was due to the company’s Inclusion and Diversity Strategy, Together for Inclusion, Diversity & Equity (TIDE), backed by measurable targets and commitment to build and invest in colleague networks.

Director of People and Corporate Services, Louise Hunter, said: “It was an honour to pick up the trophy for best large company at the Northern Power Women awards.

"Thank you to all our women who are lifting up other women and all our men who are brilliant advocates, making our business a supportive and inclusive place to work."

The company was listed as 39th in the UK’s Great Place to Work 2024 and named one of the world’s most ethical companies by Ethisphere for the 13th year.

60 per cent of current graduates and 43 per cent of apprentices joining in 2023 identify as female.

The company is achieving 'significant progress' in a sector with a workforce that is on average only 27 per cent female.
