ONE of the best places to stay in the UK has been revealed, in an article published by The Times.

Matfen Hall, near Stamfordham in Northumberland, was ranked by The Times as one of the top 100 best places to stay in the UK.

Hundreds of properties across the UK were visited and examined to produce the prestigious list.

The 4-star country hotel, spa and golf estate in Northumberland has also been cited as one of the top destinations for a golfing holiday, according to Hotels.com with a 27-hole course, par 3 course and driving range open to members and guests alike.

This former stately home is set in 300 acres of landscaped gardens, parkland and woodland and has been a popular hotel since 1999.
