A CHARITY auction raised thousands of pounds for an injured jockey.

Hexham Racecourse organised a Cheltenham Preview Night held at Hexham Auction Mart on March 6 to fundraise for the injured jockey, Graham Lee via the Injured Jockeys Fund.

The panel included Rebecca Menzies, Tim Reed, Henry Brooke, Andrew Thornton and Gordon Brown, while Jack Walton of Hexham Auction Mart conducted the auction.

The event raised £5,249.

Sean Tasker-Brown of Hexham Racecourse said: "We are delighted that our auction raised over £5,000 for Graham Lee, a cause close to the hearts of many Hexham racegoers, thanks to those who supported and donated lots.

"It was a great turnout for our Cheltenham Preview Evening, with many travelling from far and wide. Thank you to our panel of Rebecca Menzies, Tim Reed, Henry Brooke, Andrew Thornton and Gordon Brown who kept everyone entertained and informed.”

As part of the event, Hexham Racecourse auctioned:

  • A week-long stay at an award-winning holiday cottage.
  • A round of golf and lunch with Andrew Thornton and former Champion Jockey Kevin Darley.
  • Two tickets for the Leger Legends Lunch on Sunday, September 15 at Doncaster Races.
