Northumbria healthcare professionals have been given a prestigious award for their support to international nurses and midwives.
The Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has received the NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award.
This recognises 'exceptional' pastoral care provided to staff starting their career in the NHS.
The Trust first welcomed international colleagues 20 years ago from Singapore, the Philippines, and in 2023, India, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland.
Ruthie Cuaycong, a nurse practitioner at The Northumbria Hospital, who joined the organisation through the international recruitment scheme in 2004, said: "It’s brilliant that the Trust has been recognised for its support and education to international nurses and midwives."
Elaine Henderson, director of nursing at Northumbria Healthcare, said: "We understand that moving across the world to come and work in our hospitals must be a massive adjustment which is why it’s incredibly important that our international colleagues feel supported throughout their Northumbria journey."
