Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's consultant anaesthetist, Dr Bruce Gibson, has been honoured with the Evelyn Baker Award.

This prestigious national award recognises outstanding competence in anaesthetic practices, and was presented to Dr Gibson by the Association of Anaesthetists.

He was nominated by his colleague Dr Catherine Rafi, who stated Dr Gibson is "an excellent anaesthetist who constantly provides exceptional patient care."

Dr Rafi lauds Dr Gibson's unique characteristics, adding that he "specialises in vascular access, caring for cancer patients".

In addition, said Dr Rafi: "Dr Gibson demonstrates an unfailing willingness to support and help, whether a clinical problem or a colleague’s childcare emergency."

The award, initiated in 1998 by Dr Margaret Branthwaite, acknowledges those who excel in clinical excellence, teaching and supporting colleagues.

It serves as recognition for the 'unsung heroes' within anaesthetic departments.

The award was presented at the Winter Scientific Meeting in January.
