Community members in Wylam are being invited to share their opinions about local rail services.

The Tyne Valley Community Rail Partnership and Tyne Valley Rail Users’ Group have launched a consultation, inviting residents to voice their ideas and concerns ahead of key elections.

A drop-in session takes place on Tuesday, March 12 between 7pm and 9pm in the Foyer at Wylam Methodist Church, where locals can discuss the railway's impact on the community.

In the run-up to the North East Mayor's election in May, and a general election later in the year, opinions are sought on enhancement of the railway service to feed into discussions with electoral candidates.

Malcolm Chainey, chairperson of the Community Rail Partnership, said: "We want to engage with electoral candidates about transport issues and the importance of the Tyne Valley Railway’s role connecting communities between Newcastle and Carlisle and beyond.

"Do current rail services meet the needs of people in the Wylam area, where do they want to travel to and at what time, are connections with other modes of transport available, are there good walking and cycling routes to the station and are the facilities at the station and on the trains meet expectations?"

Residents unable to attend the session can submit feedback by email to chair@tvcrp.org.uk.

The groups highlight that the Railway Users Group is open to new members dedicated to championing the line and enhancing user experience.

They engage with local rail industry partners to deliver a Department for Transport strategy for Community Rail, at a local level.
