Newcastle International Airport has recently opened a brand-new 'premium' departure lounge restaurant, Aster & Thyme, which offers up 'spectacular' airfield views and locally sourced produce.
Completed in collaboration with SSP, an operator of food and beverage outlets in travel locations worldwide, the facility has replaced the former Cabin Bar, boosting the size of the outlet by 130 per cent and offering up a view over the airfield.
Passengers can now soak in uninterrupted airfield views via floor-to-ceiling windows within a botanical-themed atmosphere with 'premium' marble and brass finishes.
Diners can select from a range of locally sourced breakfast, lunch, dinner and beverage selections, with dishes including North Sea kippers, slow-cooked beef short rib, and local artisan cheese boards.
Dean Ward, director of commercial at Newcastle International Airport, said: “We are excited to launch Aster & Thyme, our brand-new premium bar and restaurant, at Newcastle International Airport.
“Aster & Thyme embodies our commitment to provide passengers with a world-class travel experience, and this stylish brasserie will be a haven for travellers to relax and enjoy the best North East produce ahead of their departure – all with fantastic views of the airfield.”
Cathy Granby, business development director UK & Ireland at SSP said the new development would do much to enhance the passenger experience at Newcastle Airport.
She said: “Aster & Thyme is great place to enjoy a bite to eat or a drink before a flight.
"We’re thrilled to be welcoming Newcastle travellers to our wonderful new bar, and we’re certain that travellers to and from this outstanding city will really love this elegant new venue.”
The development, which was part of an 18-month, £20m airport renovation project involving the departure lounge and security search area, is expected generate over 20 jobs.
The work is due to be completed ready for the bustling summer period.
The Aster & Thyme restaurant and bar was opened on Thursday, February 22.
