A community group has called its search for a new licensee of a closed village pub a 'brilliant opportunity'.

Admiral Taverns, which owns around 1,600 pubs across the UK, has begun its search for a new licensee of the Angel Inn which is located in Alston.

The village pub, which was built in 1612, is currently closed, however, is being backed by the community pub group to get back to full strength when it is taken over by an individual or team that can 'breathe new life' into the Alston favourite.

She said: "We have a brilliant opportunity available at the Angel Inn, in Alston for an experienced licensee to take over this traditional local community pub.

"Rich with history, the pub hosts three beautiful letting rooms, as well as an external courtyard with stunning views.

"It’s located in a tourist area but also hosts a very loyal strong customer community."

Hexham Courant: Samantha also detailed the type of person that Admirals Taverns is looking for to take over the Angel Inn as well as detailing the specific finances surrounding the running of the pub and the support the new licensee will be given by the community pub group to re-open it.

She said: "The incoming licensee should have ambitious plans to be involved with the local community, hosting a regular schedule of entertainment.

"Alongside a strong support system from Admiral Taverns, we will also be offering a superb financial package, which includes a starting rent of £100 per week and £1,000 towards the first beer order.
