The annual Over 50s Fair returns to Ponteland later this month, after a successful 2023 event saw a record number of attendees.

The fair - organised by Hexham MP Guy Opperman - will house more than 40 community groups consisting of local charities, volunteering organisations, hobby clubs, and employers.

Among the many employers poised to seek out potential recruits are the likes of Newcastle City Council, Northumbria Police, Northumberland County Council, Home Instead, and the event’s sponsors, Newcastle International Airport.

For those seeking advice, a number of organisations including Karbon Silver Talk, Age UK, and Northumberland County Council's Warmer Homes Scheme will be providing free consultation.

Looking forward to the fair, Mr Opperman said: "This is always one of the biggest days in the calendar.

"We had record attendance at the Over 50s Fair last year, but this year's will be bigger and better.

"The Fair provides a brilliant opportunity for people in Ponteland and beyond to engage in their local community by joining a volunteering group, taking up a new hobby, learning a new skill, or finding a new job.

"Whether you are looking to take up a new opportunity, or just fancy a friendly chat, I would encourage everyone to get involved and come down to the Memorial Hall on February 29."

Last year's fair was held in Ponteland Leisure Centre in June, where more than 400 people turned up to explore opportunities offered by 60 employers, charities and community groups.

The Over 50's Fair will be held at Ponteland Memorial Hall on Thursday, February 29 between 10am and 2pm. Entry is free.
