WE asked our readers which events they were most anticipating this year. Here's what they said.

1 Allen Valleys Folk Festival, Allendale

Nick Pepper said he was looking forward to the Allen Valleys Folk Festival, which celebrates the best in folk music, dance and the legendary Allendale Wolf in the town's market square.

The festival will mark its eleventh anniversary this year. 

2 Ponteland Beer Festival

Jane May Darling-Smith said: "Ponteland Beer Festival is good."

The beer festival will take place on May 31 and June 1 for its tenth anniversary.

More than a hundred breweries and suppliers, from across the region and beyond, collaborate to provide an extensive drink selection.

3 Tyne Valley Film Festival, Hexham

Clare Mwande mentioned the Tyne Valley Film Festival, organised by the Forum Cinema.

It will feature 36 screenings across 26 unique venues in the Tyne Valley between March 15-28.

4 St Patrick's Day

Colin Appleby said he was looking forward to La fheile Padraig, also known as St Patrick's Day, which will take place on March 17.

It marks the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

5 Northumberland Balloon Festival, Corbridge

Tracey Davey and Gemma Richardson both mentioned the Balloon Festival.

Taking place at Tynedale Rugby Club, there will be up to 25 hot air balloons on show along with live music from July 12-14.

6 Belsay International Horse Trials, Belsay

Tracey Davey recommended the horse trials. It features various riding competitions, entertainment, food and trade stalls and more.

7 Mickley Club Leek Show

Stephen Curry said he was looking forward to a local leek show. 

8 Northern Kin, Durham

Gary Oldfield mentioned Northern Kin, a festival offering three stages of live music, from blues to rock at Thornley Hall Farm.

9 Hexham Book Festival

This festival will take place from April 26 until May 5. It celebrates the written and spoken word with an eclectic combination of literary heroes, well-known personalities and up-and-coming authors. 

10 North East Dog Festival, Ponteland

The Kirkley Hall event features dog shows, activities, food, drink, shopping and more.
