Penny Grennan, town councillor and musician, is releasing her debut solo album at the Forum Cinema on February 9.

The member of The Cherry Pickers, Hexham Village Band and Hexham Bluegrass, has crafted her album, titled 'No Relation’, with songs all penned by her.

Ms Grennan said: "I have been writing songs, in a range of styles, for a long time and when I reached 60 songs I thought, it was time to record them.

"Making the CD has been a wonderful, exciting process of devising, trying ideas out and recording.

"Dean Parker, recording engineer from Core music, was fantastic, not just because of his technical skills, but his deep musicality and understanding.

"The musicians, who feature on the album, all work at Core and also contributed hugely in interpreting and playing the songs.

"I got to choose the film for the launch and Dolly Parton’s, 9 to 5, nicely matched one of the album tracks, and the music video, called The No Housework Song, shot locally by Ruby Corder.

"As to the title, I am no relation to Tom Grennan, although, I wish I was."

A lot of the elements in the album, from songwriting, instrument purchase, recording, to the launch, she said, are tightly linked with Hexham.

It has been mastered by Rolling audio, featuring artwork by Ms Grennan, and executed by musicians from Core Music.

She described the album as a "truly local affair."

Tickets for the album launch, including a screening of the film 9 to 5, can be bought at The Forum Cinema website.

The album will be available across all digital platforms, on Bandcamp, from Core Music and The Forum Cinema.
