CrossCountry are warning customers of travel disruptions between January 29 and February 6 due to planned industrial action by the ASLEF union.

The union's nine-day overtime ban may result in short-notice changes or cancellations to the train services.

A complete halt in services is expected on February 5 due to a one-day strike.

Mark Goodall, service delivery director at CrossCountry, said: "We’re sorry to customers impacted by this latest round of industrial action.

"While we’re working hard to run as many services as possible over these days, there is likely to be significant disruption for people planning to travel – especially on Saturday 3 February.

“I’d ask customers to check their whole journey before setting off, especially if travelling later in the day. Customers can visit the CrossCountry website or National Rail Enquiries for the latest travel information.”

Strikes have been planned on January 31. CrossCountry said services between Birmingham and Edinburgh via Leeds will be busier as a result.

Planned strikes on February 3 by other train operators will affect West Midlands Trains, Avanti West Coast, and East Midlands Railway.

Customers are being advised to only travel if essential and allow more time for their journey.

The train operator said on February 3, services are predicted to be busy and stations may implement queuing systems.

Engineering work scheduled over the same weekend will also affect journeys and possibly result in the operation of replacement buses on some routes.
