A leading train operator has announced services will be brought to a halt next week due to strikes.

Northern has informed its customers that an impending ASLEF strike will cause the stoppage of all operations on Wednesday, January 31.

The company has unveiled a travel advice calendar scheduled from January 29 to February 7, to notify when services will be disrupted.

Tricia Williams, chief operating officer at Northern, said: "We urge customers to check before they travel during this period of industrial action.

"We apologise in advance for the significant disruption and inconvenience this will cause our customers.

"We hope to see a resolution to this issue in the near future and an end to the disruption these strikes cause."

Anticipated disturbance from January 29 to February 6 is due to the activities of the ASLEF, resulting in further service cancellations with short notice.

Primarily, the ASLEF members participating in the strike are Northern's train drivers.

Being the UK's second largest train operator with over 2,500 daily services to more than 500 stations, Northern advises customers to check their website for details of affected services.
