The British Heart Foundation has appealed for people to take on challenges in aid of the charity.
BHF has encouraged people to participate in a meaningful event not only to contribute to the funding of life-altering research, but to instil personal pride.
The BHF is supporting more than 60 events across the UK, including the AJ Bell Great Run Series between Newcastle and South Shields.

Head of events marketing at the charity, Dan Geneen, said: "By choosing to take on an event, you not only challenge yourself physically and mentally but also contribute to funding crucial research.
"Imagine the sense of accomplishment and pride you’ll feel as you cross that finish line, knowing that your efforts have made a difference to the 7.6 million lives affected by heart and circulatory diseases, in the UK each year."
