A donation to Northumberland Wildlife Trust will allow the bird population to thrive around the region.

Carltons The Feed Merchants has donated 10 bird boxes and five bird feeders to the trust to use around their reserves.

With the progressive disappearance of natural nesting sites such as holes in trees or old buildings, along with the decline in natural bird food, Carltons' gift is timely.

The Trust's estates manager, Geoff Dobbins, said: "A massive thank you to Carltons The Feed Merchants for their generous donation.

"These bird boxes will help birds nest on a number of our reserves.

"The feeders will also help us keep the birds fuelled during the winter months - especially now when it is snowing and the ground is solid and food sources are a bit scarce."
