From a young age, Rebecca always wanted her mother to make her wedding dress after her mother had shown her her own handmade wedding gown from 35 years ago.

Rebecca was thrilled to continue the tradition when she married her partner Jamie Nichol on September 10 at Healey Barn, Riding Mill.

She said: "My mother made her own wedding dress 35 years ago and I had always imagined her making my dress too.

"She sewed a piece of her original dress into the lining of my dress which made it even more special."

Software engineer Jamie, 30, and his bride Rebecca met in 2013 while working at The Manor House Inn in Northumberland.

Jamie was a chef and Rebecca was a waitress and they worked together for about a year before becoming a couple.

After eight years, Jamie proposed while on holiday in Funchal Madeira, overlooking the marina, on July 1 2022.

The hen was in Marbella and was organised by Rebecca's sister and friends. Jamie went to Liverpool for the weekend for plenty of drinks and laughs with his groomsmen.

Finally, their big day arrived and the pair welcomed 69 guests and enjoyed their drinks reception and canapés after the ceremony.

Reflecting on their day, Rebecca said: "We honestly loved the whole day and wish we could do it again.

"Despite the thunder and lightning during our ceremony, the staff at Healey Barn made sure everything ran smoothly and we could just enjoy the day.Hexham Courant: Jamie and Rebecca togetherJamie and Rebecca together (Image: Andy Turner Photography)

"We also rented Healey Hall for the weekend which was beautiful and allowed for our family and friends to stay and celebrate with us the night before the wedding.

"At our wedding, it was important to us that instead of favours we donated to The Children’s Heart Foundation for our niece Imogen who was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and to The Peoples' Kitchen in Newcastle for those in need of a warm meal."

To add more personal and family touches, the wedding cake was made by Rebecca and her mother. It was a three-tier ivory cake with fresh flowers and pearl embellishments, and the flavours were chocolate, lemon and a fruit cake.

"One of our best moments of the day was also at the end of the night when all our guests were dancing with us for the last song but another best moment was a surprise performance from the groom's grandfather as Elvis, which was a lovely personal touch.

"Now we are planning our honeymoon to New Zealand where we plan to tour both islands in a campervan for a few weeks."
