Four schools in the Northumberland area have an excellent opportunity for teaching graduates to begin an exceptionally rewarding career.
The Durham & Newcastle Diocese Learning Trust (DNDLT) exists to enable Church of England schools to continue to achieve academic excellence.
Newbrough CE Primary, Wark CE Primary, Greenhead CE Primary and Henshaw CE Primary are a cohort of small, rural primary schools that fall under the DNDLT umbrella. “Working at a rural school provides plenty of opportunity for development,” explains Paul Rickeard, CEO of the DNDLT.
Below, Paul outlines the advantages of taking your first step into a career in teaching at these Church of England schools.
A truly enriching workplace
The DNDLT’s primary schools are committed to excellence across all areas of academic life, enhanced by a strong Christian ethos. Building a community spirit and providing support are cornerstones of the teaching approach. “Whilst each school maintains its own unique identity, they all benefit from membership in a close-knit network of similar institutions,” Paul shares.
“Our schools are dedicated to building leadership capacity, fostering collaboration and promoting professional learning. Successful candidates for our teaching roles will be well placed to begin a successful career within education.”
New teachers within the framework of the DNDLT have access to the Early Teachers Career programme. By working alongside experienced colleagues and having weekly mentor meetings, new teachers will develop their skills in a structured, supportive environment. “Working with primary school students gives our staff a unique opportunity,” adds Paul.
“Our learners are just starting their journey through life, and their teachers help to continue flourish and achieve academic excellence.”
Comprehensive training methods
Starting a new career can be a daunting experience. Working in a rural primary school grants the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities, whilst developing your knowledge and skills in a nurturing environment.
“We’ve developed our school-based primary training based on the core skills required to become an excellent classroom practitioner,” reveals Paul. “Our programme is underpinned by up-to-date, high quality educational research - delivered by a range of speakers with extensive, current school experience.
“The practical and interactive weekly training sessions allow our teachers to complement their classroom experience with theoretical knowledge. Sessions cover a wide range of relevant subjects – safeguarding, educational theory, behaviour management and lesson planning are all covered.”
Hands-on teaching experience
Undertaking practical tasks is crucial to building self-confidence and gaining valuable insight into a new teaching role. By tackling challenges head-on and integrating yourself within the fabric of the school community, you will accompany pupils on their learning journey from the very start.
“Our bespoke training approach is tailored to each starter’s specific strengths and areas for development,” adds Paul. “Nurturing the natural curiosity of your students, following their progress and watching them grow in confidence may well lead you into a long, rewarding career.”
