A VET practice has raised money to buy oxygen masks for animals who have been impacted by a fire.

Robson and Prescott Veterinary Practice in Northumberland has successfully raised £4,104 to buy 48 animal oxygen masks for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service and Tyne and Wear Fire to keep in their vehicles.

The business raised the money through various activities such as a sponsored walk along the Northumberland Coast, bake sales, quiz nights, book and plant sales and client donations.

Assistant chief fire officer at Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Stephen Kennedy, said: “We are incredibly thankful to Robson and Prescott for their generous donation. These animal oxygen masks will significantly enhance our ability to assist animals in distress during fire incidents. It’s a great step forward in enhancing animal welfare at incidents and is a testament to the community spirit of Northumberland.”

Deputy chief fire officer of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Stewart Nicholson, added: "We can't thank Robson and Prescott Veterinary Practice enough for their incredible fundraising and kind donation of these animal oxygen masks.

"All of our appliances now have this life-saving equipment on board to help whenever your four-legged friends need it."

Robson & Prescott head veterinarian nurse, Laura Petts, said: “We are delighted to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause.

"As a veterinary practice, we understand the importance of having the right equipment to save animal lives. We’re proud to do our part to save pets in the region before they even get to our doors.”
