A revised version of the River Tyne Trail guidebook is set to be published on December 8.

Originally authored by accomplished Newcastle authors, Peter Donaghy and John Laidler, the River Tyne Trail: Sources to Sea was first published in 2015.

This offers an opportunity to everyone, regardless of age or ability, to experience a slice of nature while updating themselves on the rich historical, cultural, and industrial heritage of northern England.

Mr Donaghy and Mr Laidler decided to donate the proceeds from the book to local charity, Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care.

The charity aids in transporting cancer patients from various parts of Northumberland and beyond to the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle for crucial treatments.

The first edition of the book sold out, and Mr Donaghy has been working on the second edition over the last two years, introducing a revised route and demonstrating the possibility of walking the trail in either direction.

Accompanied by various friends and supporters, they have marked the way throughout Northumberland to Deadwater Farm towards Alston, Cumbria.

Daft as a Brush Head, Mr Brian Burnie extended his support for the release of the River Tyne Trail's second edition.

Mr Burnie said: "I am thrilled the second edition of the River Tyne Trail is now available and is included in Ordnance Survey mapping.

"The Trail boasts spectacular scenery, rolling hills, sweeping views, friendly towns and a cultural heritage of its own. It's easy to experience short sections of the trail that can be built-on over time; I believe walking is part of the journey to recovery, this book is dedicated to all those who have been affected by cancer."

The River Tyne Trail guidebook charts out our river through a diverse range of landscapes.

Author Peter Donaghy said: "The trail traces our great river through a rich variety of landscapes, from the sea to sources or sources to sea. The route is divided into twelve convenient stages with additional entry and exit points enabling walkers to create their own itinerary, thus serving both long-distance and day walkers."

The book is available for pre-order at £13.99 from the Daft as a Brush website or by calling 0191 28 55 999.
