NEW parking charges have been introduced at a Tynedale station.

Northern brought in the charges on December 1 at Wylam station - one of 12 impacted.

A spokesperson for Northern said: “We are introducing car park charges at 12 of our stations.

"Costs will be a maximum of £2 per day with some offering 50p for a two-hour stay and resident permits for 4pm to 8am parking.

"We have spoken to local stakeholders and user groups about these charges.”

Cllr for Prudhoe South, Gordon Stewart, said: "I am disappointed that Northern decided to implement charging, which may have a direct and indirect impact upon Prudhoe residents.

"The charges may be small but the impact upon the community due to displacement of parking and the environmental impact if people decide to travel by car can be substantial."
