A TYNEDALE woman is once again on a mission to try and make sure every child has a present this Christmas.

Katy Denton, owner of Sophistikaty’s Hair and Beauty in Prudhoe, will be continuing her annual tradition of an 'angel tree' for Action for Children.

Katy will be 'spearheading' the campaign for the second year in the row and hopes to continue her success after last year when she was able to encourage more than thirty-seven businesses to take part.

The salon is asking that businesses put angel 'baubles', of paper or cardboard, on their Christmas trees. The angels will have genders and ages between 0-19 on them; people then buy a gift suitable for said angel.

Katy said: "We were completely overwhelmed by the response we had last year, there were hundreds and thousands of incredibly generous gift donations.

"This year we are hoping for bigger and better if that’s even possible!

"But mainly we are hoping to continue to raise as much awareness as possible for this incredible charity, not to mention supporting Action for Children in supporting children and young people in need and hopefully they will wake up on Christmas Day with a present from Santa to open, knowing that no matter what they are loved, cared for, thought of and Santa hasn’t forgotten about them. And neither have we.

"It is incredibly important to me because it’s a charity I feel do an outstanding job and face daily struggles with the resources and funding they have.

"I was invited to visit one of their service units back in June, where I met an incredible team of people who have devoted years of their life to care for these children and young people in need. I was and still am completely in awe of what they do, daily! The home had some permanent residency and some respite and day care.

"I learned a great deal more about the struggles they face, from recruitment to providing equipment needed or replacing equipment when needed.

"They rely heavily on monetary and gift donations to be able to provide the best and safest life possible for all children and young people in need.

"Due to the cost-of-living crisis, donations are becoming less and less understandably!

"So, if I’m able to reach out to those who can help, or have anything at home they can donate, it will literally change a child’s Christmas Day!"
