A TYNEDALE country estate and spa has announced its last service date.

The Walwick Estate Group, owners of Walwick Hall in Humshaugh, Hexham has announced that its small boutique hotel will close its doors on October 29 after checkout.

The Humshaugh hotel opened in 2016 after 18 months of extensive renovation to turn the 18th century Grade II listed stately home into a country hotel after the building had stood empty for several years and fallen into a poor state of repair.

The luxury hotel, set in one hundred acres, has 10 bedrooms, a restaurant, bar, spa, and gym and was bought eight years ago as a family residence which turned into a hotel for a 'trial'.

Since opening, the site has gained many awards including four Silver Stars and two Rosettes by the AA for The Dining Room.

The venue was popular for its spa and meals as it offered breakfast for hotel residents, lunch, and afternoon tea as well as a three-course dinner menu and tasting menu.

Along with the growing success of the hotel, the group added Matfen Hall to their list and transformed the stables, built in 1891, into seven holiday lets in 2018 on the site of Walwick Hall.

Now, the business group feels that it is time to return the building to its original purpose while also continuing to preserve the historic features.

Employees at the site have been offered roles at Matfen Hall.

A spokesperson for the company said: "The building was initially bought as a family residence and to make it.

"The owners behind the venue now the time is right to end the trial and return it to a family home.

"With the 'closure' of the business, the owners can focus putting their efforts in to their other venues of Matfen Hall and Chester Stables.

"We are now informing guests about their bookings and offering them a chance to stay at Matfen Hall instead.

"The last service will be on October 29 after checkout."
