Northumberland author Sue Reed is releasing an enchanting new novel, The Rewilding of Molly McFlynn, on October 28.
Set in spring 2020, it follows the upheaval of Molly, a 15-year-old moved to rural Northumberland by her mother.
Coming to terms with food she finds inedible and her bohemian grandparents' peculiar habits, unwittingly, Molly encounters a girl from the past, befriending a 17th century girl, Martha, on the run from the Newcastle witch trials of 1649.
As Molly's bond with Martha deepens, she embraces the healing power of nature, encouraging her to step away from her consumerist lifestyle.
Reed's character of Molly McFlynn reflects the author's aim to honour women who "dare to be different".
Reed, inspired by the Memorial Spoon Collective project, weaves in the tale of a woman accused during the Newcastle Witchcraft Trials.
The novel combines magical realism with an exploration of women's hidden stories and the resilience of nature.
