Pete Doherty has extended his sympathies to a grieving mother still seeking answers to the mysterious death of her son at a drug-fuelled party nearly 17 years ago.

The party took place in an East London flat and was hosted by self described 'literary agent' and drug addict Paul Roundhill.

The attendants included Hexham's Doherty, former frontman of The Libertines.

The alleged victim, Mark Blanco, a Cambridge graduate and aspiring actor, tragically lost his life after falling from a first floor balcony.

This dark tale has resurfaced due to a new Channel 4 documentary titled 'Pete Doherty, Who Killed My Son?'

The poignant piece details the relentless quest of Mark's mother, Shelia Blanco, to uncover the truth behind her son's untimely demise.

Mrs Blanco remains staunchly convinced of foul play, believing her son was intentionally pushed from the balcony.

Featured in the documentary is renowned FBI instructor, Grand Fredericks, who presents groundbreaking 3D technology to simulate Blanco's final moments after examining original footage of the fall.

The FBI expert claimed that there 'couldn't be just one person on the balcony'.

He said: "What I would see is that Mark has come out and somebody has taken Mark and is putting him over the balcony.

"If the measurements and the distance are correct, then Mark was thrown over the balcony, Mark was murdered."

Pete Doherty, now 44 and living in France, responded with a brief one-liner to Channel 4, stating: "I am sorry for Mrs Blanco's loss and I welcome any assistance people can give her to come to terms with what happened."

The documentary highlights CCTV footage from the night of the incident, back in December 2006, showing Doherty leaving the party along with his then 19-year-old girlfriend, Kate Russell-Pavier.

The footage captures them evading an unconscious Mark, lying in the aftermath of his fall.

After he fell, Mark was rushed to the Royal London Hospital.

However, despite the best efforts of the medical team, his parents were informed in the early hours of the following Sunday morning that their son would not survive from his head injuries.

Forensic video analyst, John Kennedy, who has worked on high-profile cases such as the James Bulger case, concurs with the theory of Mark being pushed from the balcony.

He stated how Blanco's fall seemed uncontrolled, forming the view that Mark may have been unconscious when he fell off the balcony.

The revelations unveiled throughout the documentary have led Mrs Blanco to advocate for the reopening of the case investigation and re-interview of all who were in attendance that night.

She said: "I have always believed that everyone who was in that flat that night knows what happened. "All I want is to find out who is involved in Mark's death and how he came to die. "It was my last promise to him, I said I would find out what happened at any cost."

A statement from the Met Police read: "Our sympathies remain with the family of Mark Blanco. Police conducted an investigation of all the evidence available following his death.

"Following the initial investigation, the death has been subject to various reviews by the Met; where areas for re-investigation were highlighted, these were progressed by homicide detectives, and we have undertaken expert analysis of the CCTV footage.

"The investigation into the death remains ongoing and any new evidence or information will be assessed by detectives."
