A TYNEDALE COUPLE are to take over and save a much-loved local pub.

James and Emma Middleton, who run a successful holiday rental business, have announced that they are the new owners of The Boatside Inn, in Warden, Hexham.

The pair grew up in Hexham and returned to live in Warden five years ago with their four children.

James said: "The reasoning behind our purchase could be seen as madness as this is such a difficult time for the industry, but we couldn't bear to see the doors close on this once thriving local community pub.

"It is such an important part of the area, a hub for the locals and a destination for so many walking in the countryside making their way down the river from Hexham and beyond.

"We are so excited by this new venture and look forward to working alongside the excellent crew that are so passionate about the Boatside Inn, to make this pub a destination for everyone - locals, regulars, walkers, visitors, families, kids and dogs.

"You will receive a warm welcome with a friendly smile!”

As part of the takeover, the pub will be closed from Monday, September 25 in order for the team to carry out a deep clean, maintenance and redecoration.

The re-opening will be on Saturday, October 14 at 11.30am.

As well as redecorating the site, Emma and James are also planning a new menu.

James added: "With two coeliacs in the family, we are very keen to include a good range of gluten-free options, as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes.

"These will be in addition to classic pub favourites such as fish and chips and homemade pies."

The couple would also welcome any feedback as to what customers would like to see on the menu and at the bar or any event ideas.
