Tyne Green Park, Hexham, is getting ready to host the Great Global Greyhound charity walk this month.

The annual event on Sunday, September 24, will see greyhounds from the North East returning to the picturesque Tyne Green Riverside Park, where last year a total of 222 dogs took part.

This impressive turnout ranked Northumberland Greyhound Rescue's walk third across the world, amidst 432 walks held across 29 countries, which saw 10,620 sighthounds taking part globally.

Participants will receive a certificate and there will be spot prizes during the walk.

The charity event, applauded for showcasing the greyhound breed's loveable and calm qualities, features a range of activities.

Alongside the exciting walk, there is a fun-packed dog show, a special raffle, a name the cuddly greyhounds contest, a tantalising sausage catch, and a truffle hunt.

Unfortunately, some greyhounds are still waiting on finding their forever homes.

Jenny Thomas, organiser, said “With so many dogs making a new life in their forever homes, this event not only gives the chance for everyone to meet old friends again but highlights the special bond greyhounds have when given the opportunity of a new life.

"This makes the afternoon an absolute winner, however, back at the Northumberland kennels many greyhounds are still waiting and dreaming for that special home.”

The event is open to anyone with a greyhound or sighthound, it is free and no prior registration is required.

To take part in the walk, simply arrive at Tynegreen Riverside Park by 1.30pm for a 2pm start.
