Major Family Law, a boutique law firm based in Ponteland, has been nominated for two awards at the prestigious national LexisNexis Family Law Awards 2023.

The firm is in the running for Family Law Firm of the Year – North and Family Law Innovation of the Year for its website Splittingup.com.

Launched in autumn 2022 by the award-winning founder of the firm, Joanne Major, Splittingup.com is a web resource specifically designed to provide practical, emotionally intelligent, and legally accurate information for separating and divorcing couples.

The LexisNexis Family Law Awards recognises the important work of family lawyers.

The finalists are selected by a judging panel consisting of the heads of various legal associations, along with Family Law editors and publishing professionals.

Joanne Major said: “These are national family law awards and therefore being a finalist in two separate categories is quite an achievement for the firm.”

Major Family Law will soon be celebrating its 15th year in business and has a team of 30 staff, including 17 specialist lawyers.

Major Family Law supports local charities and has raised over £36,000 for the Brain Tumour Charity.

The firm recently extended its support to The People’s Kitchen, a Newcastle-based homeless charity, raising £5,430.

Joanne said: "We have come to be regarded as the 'go-to' family law firm of choice, thanks to our continual focus on quality, client service, community engagement and innovation. "To promote access to justice for the less well-off, we offer free 45-minute consultations with a member of our legal team because we recognise that sometimes people need legal advice without having the funds to pay for it. "In addition, we offer a low-cost fixed fee for the divorce process itself, at just £150 plus VAT and court fees.”

Splittingup.com aims to guide readers through the complexities of separation and divorce, providing them with all the necessary information and connecting them to relevant professionals through an extensive directory.

The website also features a podcast called Splitting Up Dot Pod, where experts analyse real-life stories and situations to help listeners going through similar experiences.

The LexisNexis Family Law Awards ceremony will take place on November 27 in London.
