The techniques needed to maintain a 950-year-old castle will be unveiled at a special heritage skills weekend on September 16 and 17.
Visitors gain insights into maintaining Alnwick Castle's original character and authenticity, replicating traditional techniques, and reproducing materials.
The event showcases a variety of construction methods, including a medieval tile making interactive demonstration and the decoding of hidden meanings in tile designs.
Visitors can learn and try modern restoration techniques, such as stone cutting and lime mortar repointing.
The event, offering a peek into major heritage attractions' caretaking, also aims to foster interest in traditional construction techniques.
Catherine Neil, Head of Alnwick Castle Ventures, said: “As well as being a fun event to look at how the castle is built and maintained, we also hope it might inspire a few people to consider learning the sort of traditional skills that are so important not just to the castle but to built heritage across the region.” For further information, visit www.alnwickcastle.com.
