Quacking for charity, Ponteland's annual duck race is returning on September 3, with businesses excitingly fuelling support.

Known as one of Ponteland's recurrent attractions, the aquatic spectacle is organised by the Rotary Club and is set to draw families together from 12.30pm until 3.30pm for fun and fundraising.

To spread the word, a Duck Sale was held at Darras Hall Primary School.

Rotary President Peter Tincombe, said: “The response from local businesses to sponsor races and boats in the business boat race has been fantastic, we are hoping for fine weather and a good turn out to raise plenty of money for Children North East.”

Gates to the park will swing open free of charge with tickets for the quacky races available at Waitrose Ponteland for £1 on August 18 and 19, and in the park on the day.

There will be a bustling market teeming with stalls, children's rides, and a daring climbing wall.

Everyone's needs are catered for with a range of culinary delights, including hot food and ice cream.

In the lead up, children can join a poster competition by spotting the quirky character ducks hidden in Ponteland and Darras Hall.

Details for participation are on the Rotary website.

Newcastle International Airport is supporting the race for another year, with Newcastle Building Society chipping in as a first-time sponsor.

Even Ponteland Town Council is playing its role by funding portable toilets.

The biggest winner of the day will be Children North East, a charity that works tirelessly providing services and support for local babies, children, and families.
