A WITNESS appeal has been launched to find out how an 73-year-old motorcycle rider's vehicle left a Tynedale road.

The rider, who is now in a stable condition, was taken to hospital and was left with serious injuries after his black BMW motorcycle left the B6318 Military Road near Hexham.

Police received a report of the collision shortly after 10.20am near to the Robin Hood pub in East Wallhouses on Thursday, August 17.

Now, an investigation has been launched by the Force’s Motor Patrols team to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision – and officers are appealing to the public for information.

On a Facebook post, the force said: "A number of enquiries have been ongoing – but today we would urge any further witnesses who have not yet spoken to police to get in touch.

While the investigation is at an early stage, officers are also appealing for a potential key witness to come forward who was believed to have been driving a white coloured truck on the road prior to the collision.

Your information could prove key to the investigation – so we would encourage the driver and any other witnesses to contact us as soon as possible.

Officers are especially interested in hearing from anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and may have dashcam or CCTV footage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact us using the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website, or call 101, quoting log number NP-20230817-0291."
