Construction work is nearing completion at a housing development in Ponteland, with streets named after iconic TV detectives.

Bellway North East is building 184 new homes at Ottermead at Jameson Manor on the former Northumbria Police HQ site off North Road.

The developer has built all 158 private homes, as well as 26 affordable homes available for rent or discounted market value.

The restoration of the Grade II listed buildings on the site has been finished, creating an additional 22 new homes at The Listed at Ottermead.

Emma Chesterton, Sales Director for Bellway North East, said: “The site team has really pulled out all the stops to create a fabulous-looking development in this five-year build programme.

“We are a Newcastle-based company and it is wonderful to be able to help preserve part of this area’s heritage by giving the site of the former Northumbria Police HQ a new lease of life. We’ve paid tribute to this aspect of the site’s history by naming the streets after classic TV detectives such as Morse, Frost and Taggart.

“It has also been exciting to be able to retain and restore some of the original buildings and people have been very keen to take advantage of the rare opportunity to buy a new home in a listed property.

“This development has been an incredibly popular right from the outset when we announced our plans to develop the site in 2018. Buyers have been drawn by the peaceful village setting, which is 25 minutes from the centre of Newcastle and just a 10-minute drive from the city’s airport.”

The Ottermead at Jameson Manor development is part of the broader Jameson Manor scheme, which involved constructing a total of 275 new homes on the 57-acre site that Bellway acquired in 2018.

Ashberry Homes, a subsidiary of Bellway, built the remaining 69 properties on the site.
