CREWS working on a popular children's TV show are to film scenes in a Tynedale town.

Filming for BBC's The Dumping Ground is currently taking place in Hexham over two days.

Some scenes were filmed inside The Queens Hall on Tuesday morning (July 25), and the cast and crew are set to return to Hexham for more scenes on Wednesday (July 26).

Northumberland County Council have confirmed a temporary parking suspension will be in force for five parking spaces on Beaumont Street on Hexham while filming is being carried out on Wednesday.

In a letter to businesses and residents in Hexham town centre, producers said: "I'd like to let you know of our plans to film some brief sequences for The Dumping Ground nearby this week.

"On Tuesday we'll be working mainly inside The Queens Hall after a quick shot of the exterior at 0830.

"Then on Wednesday 26th July in the afternoon we've some brief scenes of children alighting from, then returning to, their minibus on Beaumont Street, ending with a conversation on a bench outside the Abbey."

The letter continued: "Not only is the town a strong and picturesque character in its own right, but most of the crew are from the North East and we're delighted to be working near home putting our neighbourhood on the national screen.

"Wednesday's rare visit is relatively quiet and straightforward but it does mean a few more people in the vicinity for a short time. Please don't mind us and feel free to carry on as usual."

"The Dumping Ground" is the name the fictional character Tracy Beaker gave rather unfairly to the home she grew up in.

Adapted from the hugely popular series of novels by Dame Jacqueline Wilson. the show now focuses on the stories of sixteen or so child characters who are seen to live together in a larger-than-life home.

The BBC has been making The Dumping Ground elsewhere in the North East for the past 10 years or so and in this time it has become the most successful drama series ever for BBC.
