A DOG competition was a big success according to its organisers.

Scrufts, a local dog show, was held at Wark Town Hall on Saturday, July 22.

Jason Riches, a Wark Town Hall trustee, said: "We had a fabulous turnout on a really wet Saturday. 46 dogs competed in 11 events and the 11 winners battled for best in show, which Rosie the collie won.

"The local business and community support for the event was absolutely amazing and the prizes donated by the sponsors were beyond generous, from vouchers to champagne dinners and doggy hampers.

"I need to say a big thank you to the doggy parents who braved the weather on the day and still managed to laugh, cheer and have fun.

"Scrufts was only able to be the success it was because of wonderful local people, volunteers and town hall trustees giving so much of their time.

"All money raised is for structural repairs to Wark Town Hall, which is a building of local historical interest and a registered charity."

Jason also gave thanks to businesses which supported Scrufts.
