THE body of a missing deaf cockapoo who went missing while on a walk has finally been recovered as his family shared their heartbreak.

Bob, a microchipped one-year-old cockapoo, was last seen near Corbridge, on Thursday, June 15 while walking near the River Tyne when he was spooked by a larger dog and bolted.

Bob was recovered on the night of Tuesday, June 20 when he was found at the river’s edge and brought home by a father and his son, who went looking for Bob on the first night of the search.

He was a therapy dog for 15-year-old Oliver Voysey, from Riding Mill, who lives with a brain injury he suffered at birth along with a condition which causes the deterioration of his spine, and is unable to feel his hands and feet.

Bob started living with the family at 11 weeks old after his previous owner discovered he was deaf.

Oliver's mum, Sarah Smith, said not a day went by when Bob did not give the family a 'belly laugh'.

In a Facebook post, Sarah, 47, shared the tragic news that Bob had sadly been found dead.

She said: "We’ve had an outpouring of love, support and overwhelming help from our community.

"The search for Bob was coordinated by a team of unbelievably dedicated volunteers from The Lost Dogs Trapping Team led by Mandy Butler who has been an unwavering support 24/7 and fielded so many calls and arranged cameras, drones, search teams, sniffer dogs and poster campaigns.

"We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your commitment to helping Bob. We are so very grateful to you and your entire team. Thank you to our family and friends who have held us up and carried us for six days. We are lucky to have such support.

"This is the saddest ending and it feels our hearts will never mend, but we are so glad to have brought him home,"

Hundreds of people joined the hunt for Bob along with national search teams, while a Manchester-based company donated a thermal drone to help look for him.
