Libertines' Pete Doherty takes ice baths to aid in sobriety

The frontman of The Libertines, who has been clean for three and a half years, has explained how he finds himself more inspired when he's calmer and reflective.

He shared a pre-show ritual with his Instagram followers, showing himself plunging into a freezing bath of water and completing breathing and relaxation exercises.

In the past Pete has served two months in prison and coped with drug addiction, including to crack and heroin.

He said to followers: "You find that you're able to get through life without all the crack and heroin and all the chaos that comes in that world. Although I didn't ever think it was possible for a while.

"I used to quite enjoy the chaos you see because I used to get quite a bit of inspiration from it. 

"But it tends to be now that I'm usually more inspired when I'm in a calmer, reflective state of mind these days. 

"I'm lucky to have come through it in one piece... well pretty much in one piece."

Today, he has settled down with his Puta Madres bandmate Katia in France, after ditching his bad boy lifestyle.

Pete credits French musician Frédéric Lo for helping him quit drugs after playing a song called Inutile Et Hors D'usage – meaning 'Useless and all used up' – to him in France in early 2020.

Pete and Katia welcomed their third child into the world earlier this month.

Pete recently revealed the name of his new baby girl.

Doherty took to Twitter to reveal his daughter's name as Billie-May, accompanied by a photograph of the child and her hospital name tag.

Doherty's wife Katia de Vidas also posted about the child's arrival on Instagram, sharing a picture of the baby's wristband and a photo of her hair.

The couple got married in France in a private ceremony in September 2021, where The Libertines and Puta Madres performed.
