A HEXHAM man has been made subject to alcohol abstinence monitoring.

Darren Brooks, of Priestlands Drive, was at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on June 1.

At an earlier hearing, the 32-year-old admitted a charge of assault by beating and one of criminal damage.

Magistrates sentenced Brooks to a rehabilitation order lasting 20 days with alcohol monitoring.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £114.
