Catherine Hopper and Oliver 'Olly' Rodley decided for a different type of ring as they ditched a traditional wedding cake for doughnuts.

The pair took, who met when both working at Gateshead College, first got talking on a work night out which sparked interest and the start of their relationship.

Hexham Courant: "Our daughter woke up because of the NYE fireworks so although she wasn’t part of the plan she ended up handing me the ring!

"She was just one at the time. We had been together eight years when ollie finally popped the question."

Finally, Olly decided to propose to Catherine - but it all did not go to plan.

"We got engaged in lockdown on New Year’s Eve 2020/2021, while I was pregnant with our little boy," Catherine explains.

The pair got married at Slaley Hall on March 18 infront of friends and family.

Recalling the day, Catherine said: "We celebrated with family and close friends, and our two children, three-year-old Zara and two-year-old Harry.

"We had a loose theme of Hollywood glamour/gatsby inspired so the men were in black tie and there were lots of gold details. I even had a dress change on the evening which was very Gatsby era.

Hexham Courant:

"Funnily enough my dress was ‘Catherine’ by Stella York which I think shows it was meant to be and ollie wore a blue velvet jacket with trousers, shirt and velvet bow tie from Hugo Boss from Metrocentre, Gateshead.

"The bridesmaids wore navy satin dresses from TFNC and the groomsmen wore M&S suits. The page boys had tuxedos with tails from a children’s Salon and Zara wore a dress from a little boutique in the metrocentre called Pret a Vie."

Hexham Courant:

"We also added some personal touches to our wedding - mainly our 'cake'.

"There is a story behing it and began when Ollie used to play football.

"When we met he played for Stocksfield then Prudhoe Town, so he’d be there a lot of the weekend and used to pick up Krispy Kreme donuts on the way home.

Hexham Courant:

"So we didn’t have a wedding cake and instead had donuts from KK - all our favourite flavours plus some with Mr and Mrs Rodley written on them."

The pair then danced to Arctic Monkeys ‘Baby I’m Yours’ and hope to have a honeymoon in the future when the kids are older.
