Take a look back at visits between Hexham and its twinning towns Metzingen in Germany and Noyon in France.

HEXHAM town twinners said “guten tag” to their German friends in 2009.

In 2017, Hexham Town Twinning Association hosted another successful visit from its German twin town as they celebrated the 27th anniversary.

The special guests from Metzingen were welcomed by civic leaders and community figures with a special reception at Hexham’s Beaumont Hotel.

In 2018, more than 40 visitors from Hexham took part a four-day town twinning visit to Noyon in Picardy, France.

In 2019, A group photo was taken in Hexham’s recently refurbished Bandstand and a plaque commemorating the twinning with Noyon for the 25th anniversary, which was unveiled on a bench in Beaumont Street.

However, visits stopped in 2020 but technology enabled people in the three countries to communicate online.

Hexham Mayor Derek Kennedy and several representatives visited the French town of Noyon in 2022 to present a banner of the up-coming anniversary of Hexham's Market - which will be on Saturday, September 24.

The banner was created by Belle Burdon, a student at QEHS who designed the banners for the 800 year anniversary.

This year, Hexham welcomed its French twin town for its 30 year anniversary and celebrated the fact it was the first visit back since the pandemic.
