TWO brothers hope to bring more positivity to TV screens as their 'diversity' dance group competes in the semi-final of Britain's Got Talent.

Brothers Kieran Maclaren, 26, and Cameron Elliot, 20, from Ridsdale in Hexham, are preparing to give it their all with their dance group Unity.

They're hoping to pass through the semi-finals and win the Britain's Got Talent (BGT) £250,000 prize, as well as a slot on the bill at this year's Royal Variety Performance, due to take place in November.

Unity, a dance group of students from Jelli Studios in Liverpool, performed The Village by Wrabel at the audition stage on Saturday, May 26, and received a standing ovation from judges and audiences.

After their performance, Simon Cowell pressed the golden buzzer for the second time in the series... despite having a 'golden buzzer act' already.

The group now goes straight into the semi-finals, which will be on Friday, June 2 on ITV1.

Hexham Courant:

Recalling the moment of the golden buzzer, the brothers said: "Getting the golden buzzer was a very surreal moment, especially with it coming from Simon and with there being no more Golden Buzzers.

"Even with the extra ones they have given this year, it hasn't taken the buzz out of getting it! We are all so proud.

"We went into the audition knowing they had none left so it was a total surprise when Simon said, 'sometimes you have to break the rules'.

"I'm proud to be part of this group, to share the stage with my brother and the impact that we have all seen on social media 'I Will' has done.

"You do get the negative comments, some saying about being a 'sob story' but I don't believe that's what we represent.

"I see it as spreading positivity, celebrating the differences that may divide us from society, and it takes courage to step forward and share some of the stories in the piece.

"It's nice to hear people in comments and messages saying how empowering the piece was and found it emotional to watch.

"To be next to my brother for that golden buzzer moment was something I'll never forget. We are very lucky to be where we are and thankful for every moment.

"I look forward to bringing another message of positivity in the semi-finals and fingers crossed for the final.

"The piece we performed in the audition and the ones we can't wait to share in the semi-final and fingers crossed we can show all stories from members of the group. Please vote for us.

"We would also like to say a huge thank you to Kay at Studio K in Hexham for everything she has done for us.

"We'd not be training at Jelli Studios and performing in a Britains Got Talent semi-final without her."
