A CHOIR will perform in Hexham to fundraise for a palliative care charity.

The Jubilate Choir will sing in the Hexham Mart Cafe at noon on Friday, June 2, to support Tynedale Hospice at Home.

Jubilate is a community mixed voice choir, formed more than 20 years ago. Its aim is to sing for pleasure and raise funds for charities. Over the years, the ensemble has raised thousands.

It is available for weddings, baptisms and private events.

A spokesperson for the choir said: "We are hugely lucky to have Warren Smith as our musical director, who has now been with us for over 12 years. Warren was a pupil at Queen Elizabeth School, Hexham. He was organist at St Andrew's Church Corbridge and is currently organist at St Mary's Parish Church Ponteland, and head of choir at Mowden Prep School.

"He has been involved with the Hexham Male Voice Choir, Hexham Amateur Stage Society, Hexham Orpheus Choir and Felling Male Voice Choir and Voices of Hope.

"With Warren as our inspiration, we sing a mix of popular, secular and sacred music, and have sung at a number of events in Hexham, Lanercost, and Ponteland and were three times winners of the Hexham Music Festival," they said.

The choir rehearse on Monday evenings at St John Lee, Hexham and is always looking for new voices, especially tenors and basses.
