A FOOTBALL club has benefitted from Tesco's Community Grant Scheme.

Hexham Football Club will receive £1,460 to ensure young players can progress successfully and develop participation in the sport.

This also has the extra benefit of promoting Hexham FC and sports within the community.

The grant will be spent on pitch hire, club strips and other necessary equipment to benefit the increasing number of players joining and progressing through the club.

Samantha Burns, Hexham FC trustee, said: “For community football clubs like Hexham, grants like this allow us to help more people participate and make a bigger difference across the Hexham area and beyond.”

Claire de Silva, Tesco’s head of community, said: “Tesco Community Grants help support local good causes like Hexham Football Club and especially those projects supporting young people, those providing food, and local causes close to our colleagues’ hearts.”

Tesco Community Grants is run in partnership with community charity Groundwork, which awards grants to thousands of community projects annually.

Tesco’s Community Grants scheme, previously known as Tesco Bags of Help, has provided more than £100 million to more than 50,000 projects across Britain.

Graham Duxbury, Groundwork’s national chief executive, said: “Tesco Community Grants continues to give local projects the boost they need to help their communities thrive. We are pleased to have been able to help so many local good causes over the years and look forward to seeing what community organisations can achieve in the future with the right resources.”

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund projects that benefit communities.
