TYNEDALE RFC rounded off a successful season with an annual party and awards night at Corbridge.

The first XV finished sixth in the new-look National League Division Two North – quite an achievement for an amateur club based in a small village often playing against big city sides with professional players.

Tynedale were the only side to beat runaway league champions Sedgley Park, edging them out 14-11 in a dramatic game at Corbridge in March.

Tigers were promoted as champions, and joining Tynedale in National League Division Two North next season will be North East regional champions Billingham, and relegated Hull and Leeds Tykes, with old rivals Fylde, Huddersfield, Hull Ionians, Otley, Preston Grasshoppers, Rotherham Titans, Sheffield, Sheffield Tigers, and Wharfedale also back on the fixture list.

There will be no local derby with Blaydon, who were relegated along with Harrogate.

At the Tynedale awards night, there was a special presentation to the popular Graeme Dunn, who clocked up his 300th appearance for the first team. The Carlisle county captain and scrum half James Telford celebrated his debut season at Tynedale by being named first team back of the year, while marauding hooker Louis Frankland was forward of the year.

His front-row partner Oscar Caudle was the coaches’ player of the season. The clubman of the year was Micky Hall, who also collected the Ian Dodds Memorial Trophy.

Back of the year for second team Tynedale Raiders was Jake Turnbull, while Raiders forward of the year was Jacob Brown. The raider of the year was Callum Morrell.

Martyn Hutton was named back of the season for third team the Centurions, with Johnny Pape the pick of the pack.
