A TYNEDALE junior football team is celebrating after winning a West Division Youth Cup final.

Corbridge United U18s beat Prudhoe Youth Rockets 3-1 at Essity Park on Thursday evening (May 4).

Corbridge player Jake Robson scored the first goal of the match in the second half.

Prudhoe's Adam Pearson-McCoull then scored, but Zachary Willis' goal meant Corbridge once again took the lead. Teammate Adam Panchyshyn secured the win after scoring a penalty.

Owen Teasdale was named Man of the Match.

"It's great for the lads to finally get a win," said the Corbridge team's coach Shaun Lowery, adding there was a great atmosphere at Essity Park thanks to the number of people who came out to watch the exciting game.

"It's a good chance it was their last ever game," he added. "They've possibly won a trophy for the first time ever after their last game together.

"I'm so proud of them. Watching them get their trophy was just out of this world, we couldn't believe it."

Lowery began coaching the team three years ago. The players, some of whom had played together since they were seven-years-old, had previously been coached by Colin Galloway and David Robson.

"We couldn't find a coach," explained Lowery, who has also been assisted by fellow parent Duncan Cave. "My son plays for the team, so to keep it going I said I would take it over."
