A NORTH-east employer has been named one of the best UK workplaces.

Northumbrian Water was named one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for the third year running.

Great Place to Work® UK included the water company in the large category of the UK’s Best Workplaces™ list, following the results of an employee survey.

The company was one of 344 recognised, alongside other big names in its category, including Hilton and Deloitte.

An element highlighted was the work employees do to support the communities they live in and which the company serves.

Through Northumbrian Water’s Just an Hour employee volunteering programme, workers supported more than 300 organisations, with 38 per cent of colleagues supporting causes close to their hearts.

Elouise Leonard-Cross, Northumbrian Water’s head of people, strategy and experience, said: "An amazing 87 per cent of our colleagues took part in this survey, so we see it as a strong reflection of what it’s like to work for our company.

"But it is the people within the business who themselves truly make this such a great place to work, so we have them to thank for being great colleagues who really care about what they do and those they do it with, supporting one another, finding new and better ways to deliver our services, and doing the best they can for our customers every day.

“Every year achieving a place on the list is becoming more challenging as more companies are taking part, so we’re delighted to have achieved a position for the third year.”
